As the previous post has already indicated we have been having our big annual event here – UID11 Design Talks and Degree Exhibition have been really successful this year with many industry guests present and the possibilities for them to present their companies and studios to the students as well as  to have portfolio reviews for internships and jobs with current students and new graduates. The picture above is taken during one of the breaks – everyone getting some “fika” to keep on getting inspired during the talks.

You can read more about the event here on our own website and  at cardesignnews.com ( if you are having a member login). We are sure more will  hit the web very soon of the amazing projects our graduates have been working on (just click on the names).

This post  will  be soon complemented by another one to show a bit more of  the actual designs. For the past weeks TD1s have been working hard on the Strategic Design project in collaboration with TH!NK from Norway.  Future concepts for TH!NK in the field of car sharing, personally owned vehicles, commercial/ fleet vehicles and vehicles with special applications or in restricted areas have been explored.

During the UID DEGREE SHOW and DESIGN TALKS the class had the chance to present their final result to TH!NK‘s chief designer – Katinka von der Lippe. As you can see we have been pretty jammed to do so in a hallway since all the other space had been taken by the event and degree project exhibitions.

We also had support during this project from Steve Mattin who came in as an external tutor during important phases in the design process. Below you can see him and Erik discussing on his special application vehicle.

While the TD1 students are busily TH!NKing and sketching on their current project (too busy to post but more on that project, soon)  the graduating students had their Degree examinations this Monday and Tuesday. Luciano Bove who is working as a Design Manager at Renault France,  has been the external examiner.  Now the remaining  2 weeks will be the time to get the models and posters ready for the Degree Exhibition. If you plan to come to our Degree Event,  don’t forget to sign up before the 20th! It will be an amazing show – promise. LET US INSPIRE YOU.

Everyone at TD is really busy these days – there is already another exciting project that TD1 is working on and TH!NKing about while the degree projects from TD2 are taking shape –  hence not much posting has happened at our blog…

Nevertheless we need to make an update on the latest finished OCKELBO project by TD1 students  that is currently buzzing in the motorcycle/snowmobile and ATV media.

During a 10 week  course Alexandra, Anton, Casey, Erik, Louise, Richard, Rickard and Yujin  have designed a new inspirational line of vehicles for the Ockelbo brand, which stopped production in 1989 and is now discussed to be revived.

We have been spotting reports at Fastbikes.se, Motorcyclenews.com, Västerbottens-Kuriren, Hell for Leather Magazine, motodom.ua, atl.nu and  there will be some more following, for sure  :)

Class of 2010 – you guys are having a  nice 3 page article in the current issue of AUTO & DESIGN showcasing your degree works. It is covering the degree works as well as the current developments at UID and the CHANGE event with keynote speaker Chris Bangle.   Check it out and let’s try to get more of those ;)

As you can see on the pictures some things have changed or are  jut being changed… The wall has been removed and right now the walls are being painted and  electricity and cables are spread over the place.

Tables will be arriving soon ( hopefully ) as well as the glass window that is going to replace the wall leading to the old meeting room (“MA holken”).

So you are going to move into a brand new place with white walls that want to be filled with some amazing stuff.  :)

Some news for those of you who have followed the OLME spyder ® development. Ove has informed us that he has passed all the tests with it. Now he has got his number plates and can legally drive the OLME on the streets. So the first vehicle designed by UID students is on the road!

Some link to share for your weekend read – some articles might be interesting.

The Vehicle Designers Review is an Emag about vehicle design,  technologies and solutions for vehicle designers.

Maybe we can start thinking if we should send in some stuff if they are doing a new issue as Coventry and RCA are featured…
