Here’s my little lady Peggy Sue, purchased in 2006 with only 75,000km on it, she’s been through alot and still truckin’. Other then painting the grille black, putting in a stereo and me killing the first tranny,  its all original. Base model DX automatic so she’s far from a speed demon, but survived the numerous trips from Detroit and back while attending CCS. She’s at home in the driveway now waiting for my return.

… Well its actually not in a garage, its freeze-dried on my parents driveway waiting for me to restart and reboot it in july! I bought this beauty in the summer of 2008 – a SAAB 99 GL 5-speed from 1984. At that time it had 161 000 km on the meter and had been driven by an old lady from the day it was new to about a month before i bought it. The one i bought it from got it as payment for painting the old womans house… It had never been run in the winter and had been served regulary at the local dealer in Västerås. It was, with a lack of a better word, perfect. No one had been sitting in the backseat, the floormats was un-used and there where still the plastic covers on some parts of the interior.

Since that day, i have driven it about 10 000 km and done some things for it. Its got 15″ SAAB original alloys with 195/60R15″ tires instead of the superskinny (but steerable) 165/80R15″ that was on originally, a blue SAAB-stripe at the bottom of the body, shaved from emblems and logos, a home made mp3 system (cause the old lady didnt order it with a stereo. or speakers. or cables. Not even the center console..).

This summer I hope i have time and money to fix some beauty spots. It needs new shocks and radiator, tires (hopefully 205/50R15″ Yokohama), new license plates, spacers and a lowering kit. After that, she is as good as new. The passenger door should be respreayed after some idiot hit the door, and a hood from a SAAB 90 (with space for a modern saab-emblem) would be the cherry on top.. But other than that, I love it more than ever!

Yeah, I’m proud to have what’s probably one of the top (or bottom) 5 smallest engines in Europe. Can you go at 5000rpm and still keep speed within legal limits in your car? It’s almost 13 years old but only 130.000km, so I expect to have it around for some more years, especially after it having survived here in Umea for two years (including the coldest winter in 40 years). Oh yes, it also has a little white sticker on the side :) Let’s just say it’s easier to spot in a parking lot.
